The Coliseum was dressed up to welcome Barcelona in the first match of the season. Getafe returned home almost three months after the agonizing victory over Osasuna that gave them half of their stay. The fans, who this summer have broken records for renewals, accompanied the team until the last minute. That moment when 'Choco' Lozano headed a ball that went close to Ter Stegen's post. The final push was almost worth three points.

Already in the first half, the duel acquired speed and frenetic moments. Juanmi Latasa could have put Getafe ahead in a race with Koundé in which both struggled and the striker could not finish in conditions. The response of Barça was immediate through Raphinha that David Soria cleared. Oriol Romeu, on one side, and then Juan Iglesias, tried their luck with shots from outside the area. Again Raphinha looked for the goal, and again Soria prevented the goal, the ball hit Mitrovic and crashed against the post. His next appearance on the field led to his expulsion for an aggression against Gastón.

With numerical superiority, the blue and blues were looking for the advantage on the scoreboard even harder. In the second half, the match was balanced in the initial moments. Jaime Mata was shown a second yellow card in a set piece. Ten against ten and with more space, there were even more options to open the score. But it was not to be. The 0-0 scoreline was immovable, and the league opener ended with a point in the first half.
